My daughter headed to school and for the first time in many years, the hours between 8am and 3pm were suddenly without her. I started these paintings that both feature her and distinctly don’t, as a way to process this huge change in her and my life as well as seek a new rhythm to my practice moving forward. There’s only so much painting you can get done before the school bell rings, and this has provided the primary structure under which I’m making these works.
